[birdky] Backyeard feeder and new birder's store

I now have lots of backyard birds again after having several days of almost
nothing at the feeders. Even the squirrel population had become scarce.
Then I discovered that a Cooper's hawk had been hanging out in the
neighborhood for a week or so. I had seen evidence of a hawk (feathers
around and on the platform feeder twice), but had only seen a hawk once. On
Thanksgiving Day, it showed up in a tree in full glory, so I had the
opportunity to show my grandchildren a magnificent hawk and have a dialogue
about the role of raptors. Unfortunately, all 10 of my resident squirrels
are also back.
Besides the normal winter feeder birds, I had all the woodpeckers:
red-bellied, flicker, hairy, downy, Pileated, and yellow-bellied sapsucker
over the last two days. Only the red-headed was not seen. Also had a
red-bellied nuthatch.
This is not a commercial and Doug Ives isn't aware that I am doing this.
Now persons living in the Madison, Rockcastle, Jackson, and Estill Counties
will have an alternative to going to Lexington for feeding supplies and
equipment. Doug and Judy Ives moved to Berea from Iowa a few months ago
and have opened a birder's store called Birds' Nest and Friends (the friends
being squirrels). Doug is retired from the U.S. government service.
Besides good prices on seed and equipment, Doug is available to do seminars
on birding. They are located east of Berea at 2246 Hwy 1016 (Bobtown Road).
Phone number is 859-985-5391.
