AND IT WAS A BRIEF EPISODE

Yesterday, when I was doing my 2 mile walk at Rough River State Park
along the Airport Road, I caught a moving blur out of the corner of my eye,
turned my head and caught a hawk coming in at a very low angle.
I then heard the distress cry of the Meadowlark as the Hawk scooped
up the bird headed down over the hillside toward the woods.I was able to
identify the prey as there was a large expanse of bright yellow
hanging from the talons of the hawk. In fact such lightning fast action gave
the impression that I had a yellow bellied hawk. Then I saw the tail of the
hawk and it had brown bands interrupted by a narrow band
of lighter color but it had disappeared by the time I could see the
tip of the tail. I'm guessing the hawk was a Coopers.
This was at the edge of an area that the Park designates as leaving unmowed
in order provide habitat for wildlife.

Seems to be working. Joyce Porter
