It was a beautiful day for the BBC/KOS field trip to the Ohio County strip 
mines on Saturday, December 7.  The eleven observers saw or heard 62 species. 
 Some of the highlights were a great look at a Barred Owl sitting in a tree,  
14 Short-eared Owls flying around, a Ross' Goose sitting among domesticated 
waterfowl, 3 Rough-legged Hawks,  12 Wilson's Snipe feeding along side of a 
road and in a field, Northern Harriers soaring over the hills,  a Lapland 
Longspur was heard, a couple of people saw a Snow Bunting along the side of 
the road, 9 species of sparrows were also observed, 2 Brown Thrashers flew in 
front of the cars, and to top off our list at the end of the trip a beautiful 
Merlin was seen sitting in a tree - great view.

Thanks to all who came on the trip and added to a "Great Day" in the field.
