Every bay, inlet, cove and beach on KY Lake had an abundance of gulls today.
The mouth of Jonathan Creek was alive with Bonaparte's Gulls. KY dam was a
hot bed of activity. A 1st winter LAUGHING GULL was feeding and resting
below KY Dam. A 1st winter Lesser Black-back Gull was sitting in the water
above the dam. There were many strange looking Herring gulls. The numbers
were staggering and I'm sure I missed something.
Common Goldeneye, Black duck, Shoveler, Gadwall, Wigeon, Ring-necked duck,
Lesser and Greater Scaup, Hooded Merganser, Ruddy Duck, Horned grebes, Pied
billed grebe and coots were also plentiful.
Other birds of interest were Bald Eagle, Red-Shouldered Hawk, 12 Northern
Bobwhite, Least Sandpiper, Belted Kingfisher, Cedar waxwing and Rusty
Blackbird.
