Kathryn Clay of Falls of Rough and Louisville asked that I report the
following:
Hundreds of Horned Larks in several flocks south of Mcquady in
Breckinridge Co in open fields along Hwy 105 today 12-7-02.
Temperature at my place at Short Creek yesterday AM was -1 degree
on one thermometer . Across the yard in another location temperature
read -2 degrees.
I was not at home this morning but it was several degrees warmer this AM.
With the sun shining today, the snow, the icy crust with more snow atop
that, and the ice covering on the trees is clearing out.And the roads are
clear. When I arrived home mid-morning two hawks took off
simultaneously from my yard. One was a Buteo and the other was an
Accipiter. Both the Coopers and the Sharpshin frequent the birdfeeder
area in my yard. Joyce Porter Falls of Rough, Ky
