A couple of folks have asked me what I meant about my comment on the brief
hunting season today through the weekend. These "Woods Tract" units are NOT
hunted, so at least most birds should stay there during the season as hunters
work the surrounding private lands. However, what I meant was I didn't know if
the swans, for example, might retreat farther back onto the refuge area out of
sight for a period. There are times when they cannot be seen from KY 268.
Fields immediately adjacent to the Woods Tract are hunted and it could have an
affect on how bold some birds choose to be and how they are distributed out
along KY 268.
