I was back up near Markland Dam today so birded a few spots along the Ohio
River about mid-day. Even though winds have been southish, it just seems like
any day with crummy weather this time of year must ground some birds.
Point Park, Carrollton, Carroll Co.
4 BLACK SCOTERS
1 Common Loon
Markland Dam, Gallatin Co.
very few gulls
only a few American Coots above
Ohio River at Craig's Creek, Gallatin Co.
ca. 20 Lesser Scaup
ca. 8 Ring-necked Ducks
3 SURF SCOTERS
4 Buffleheads
2 Common Loons
1 Cattle Egret (loafing with gulls)
ca. 100 Ring-billed Gulls
4 Herring Gulls
ca. 25 Bonaparte's Gulls
1 first-year LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
