A lone Sandhill Crane was feeding on the Blood River mud flats this afternoon.?
It was odd to see the crane by itself but what came next was even odder.? A
pack of 5 coyotes came out of the woods at dusk, this is a common site.? The
pack leader?set its sights on the crane.? The others circled the crane?while
the lead coyote took off toward the bird.? The crane?hollered and called?as
it?flew from the attacker.? The crane circled and landed?near 3 Bald Eagles and
many?Great Blue Herons.? The coyote recharged and the bird took flight again.?
?The coyotes finally gave up the chase and headed into the woods.? I've never
seen the coyotes go?after?the?Great Blues.??? What was it about the crane that
caused them to go for the hunt?
The crane returned to the mud flat and was feeding at last light.
Hundreds of ducks are gathering in the area.? Too bad hunting season will send
them on their way soon.?
