[birdky] RPT:Merlin on Ohio River Cox's Park

Today while birding for just an hour at sunset, I viewed a medium-sized
raptor sitting in a tree. Looking through the scope I noted a female Merlin
eating its dinner. I think this is the first Merlin I've seen perched in
the county, and also the first I've seen here in 9 years. I've waited for
that sight on the river for a long time, what a thrill! Also across the
river a mute swan landed briefly and then dissappeared, leading me to
believe it may have been wild. On an icthyological note, a South American
Arowana, and an Asian Arowana were floating in a pile of debris behind
Tumbleweed on River Road. Strange
Good birding,
Michael Autin
Louisville, KY
