Over the past month, I have noticed more Blue Jays at my feeders that =
usual - up to 6 at one time, when I normally only get a pair.

Also, from reports I have read on other list-serves, there is an =
unusually large number of Blue Jays in the upper Mountain West - Idaho, =
Washington, Oregon, Montana etc. There also seems to be a large =
movement of Stellar's Jays into places that they do not normally occur

From the Moscow (ID) paper:

Midwest visitors flocking to Idaho; Availability of food may be drawing
raucous blue jays

By DIANE PETTIT
of the Tribune
Birders in this region are aflutter about a flurry of blue jay sightings =
in
north central Idaho and southeastern Washington.

A group of five were spotted recently near Lena Whitmore School in =
Moscow
and another four came to a feeder in Lewiston.

Terry Gray of Genesee has five in his yard every morning, drawn by the
peanuts he throws out for them.

"Typically you see a few," Kas Dumroese of Moscow says of the appearance =
of
the loud, jaunty jays. "This year we have a boatload."

Dumroese summarizes sightings in a weekly rare bird report for the =
region.
The report is posted on a number of birder Web sites, including the =
Palouse
chapter of the Audubon Society.

According to the Web site of the Idaho Bird Records Committee, there =
were
six sightings of blue jays in all of Idaho last year.

This fall, there have been more than 200 sightings, a state record.

Blue jays are a Midwestern and eastern species, although their range has
been expanding, says Dumroese.

He says an acorn failure in the Midwest this year may explain the influx =
of
blue jays in this region.
