[birdky] RBA-Northern Shrike

After hours of watching, photographing, reading books and searching the
internet the four of us that saw the Northern Shrike today feel positive with
the
identification.
David Roemer met us late in the day and was able to take some very good
video of the bird. It does have an intermediate bill but this is not uncommon
in
Northern Shrikes according to what I have read this evening. All the other
field marks are diagnostic.
The bird was busy catching and impaling grasshoppers onto the locust tree
bards. It looks like it is settling in for a stay and should be easy to
relocate. Remember you do need a permit to be in the area. There are
hunters
everywhere since deer season began today. Please be careful and wear orange.
Hap, Melissa, Roseanna and David.
