The recent cold front combined with last night's
drizzly weather precipitated a nice fallout of
waterbirds on Barren Reservoir.  Highlights are as
follows:

RED-THROATED LOON  adult  videotaped

COMMON LOON   1342  with 992 counted in one sweep of
the scope from the Bailey's Point Campground!

Pied-billed Grebe  Appr. 60

Horned Grebe  170+

A raft of 600-700 ducks was present in the Mason's
Island area including:

Gadwall
Am Wigeon
Mallard
BW Teal
N Shoveler
GW Teal
Canvasback
Redhead
Ring-necked Duck
Greater Scaup  4
Lesser Scaup  200+
SURF SCOTER  9 including an adult male (Goose Island
area)
Bufflehead
Hooded Merganser
Red-breasted Merganser
Ruddy 

Also present were:

Sandhill Crane  flock of appr. 130
Dunlin  19
Pine Siskin  3
Herring, Ring-billed, and Bonaparte's Gulls

Other highlights from recent trips include:

Oct 30  

3 Dunlin and a Black-bellied Plover at Petros Pond in
Warren County

Nov 5

28 Dunlin, a Vesper Sparrow, and an adult Bald Eagle
at Barren Reservoir

The resident flock of Chipping Sparrows had grown to
over 45 in the yard this morning.
