The high pressure system that just moved across Canada
and the Great Lakes region has sent a lot of new birds
our way, and the cloudy/drizzly weather has persuaded
many of them to take a rest stop.  Present on Barren
Reservoir this afternoon were the following species of
interest and some minimum numbers:

Common Loon   

800+  with 748 counted in one sweep of the scope in
the Mason's Island/Bailey's Point area.

Horned Grebe  210+  with 170 near Mason's Island

DC Cormorant 50+

Approximately 600 ducks were resting in the Mason's
Island area.

Green-winged Teal  100+
American Black
Mallard
Pintail
Shoveler
Gadwall
American Wigeon
Canvasback  2 females
Redhead  75+
Ring-necked  200+
Lesser Scaup 200+
Greater Scaup  15+
Bufflehead
Ruddy
Red-breasted Merganser

Two flocks of Sandhill Cranes totallng 28 birds and a
single Pine Siskin were also observed.

McElroy Lake in Warren County consists of the ditch,
some large puddles, and a lot of soggy ground. 
Observed this morning by Joanie and me were:

American Golden Plover
Dunlin 3
Lapland Longspur
Flyover Herring and Ring-billed Gulls
