National Geographic Explorer TV Show premieres "Owls - Silent Hunters" this 
Sunday November 17th at 8 pm on MSNBC .  
(repeats Saturday 11/23 at 6 pm and Sunday 11/24 at 5 am)

The "snowy owl portion" of this show is suppose to be the Owl Research 
Institute's Snowy Owl Project in Barrow, Alaska.  (The president of the Owl 
Research Institute is Denver Holt who was the featured speaker at our KOS fall 
meeting and spoke to the Cincinnati Bird Club/Raptor Meeting back in 
September).  This program will cover various species of owls.  It aims to 
reveal how they've conquered the night and adapted to live in some of Earth's 
most extreme habitats. 

Also, watch for a close-up picture of a Snowy Owl chick on the cover of the 
December issue of  National Geographic Magazine.  That issue will feature an 
article on the Owl Research Institute's Snowy Owl research project and how 
Snowy Owls rely on the boom-or-bust market of their favorite prey: the humble 
lemming.
