Based on a couple of emails I have received "off the air" I am compelled to
add a couple of more items to the hummingbird banding topic.  Most
importantly, Bob Sargent's Hummingbird Study Group banders come and band
hummingbirds ONLY if hummer hosts are interested and willing.  No one would
arrive on a doorstep and band a hummer unless the landowner was completely
in favor of it.  Also, Bob, his web site, and his banders, ALL are a wealth
of information on how to deal with wintering hummers, from knowing the best
ways to keep your sugar water free of ice to providing info on overall
behavior and likelihood of survivorship, they pretty much have the most
up-to-date information available.

With high pressure moving in, light breezes and clear skies, Sandhill Cranes
may move again today :o)

Several folks have asked about the official Christmas Bird Count period; it
is now December 14 thru January 5th every year, regardless of the way
weekends fall. Thanks to those who have already emailed in CBC dates for the
upcoming season.
