Birding highlights from the Ohio River on 31 October
and 1 November 2002 are as follows:

Hudsonian Godwit as previously reported   videotaped 

18 species of waterfowl including:

Surf Scoter  20
Black Scoter  5

Flock of 3 Black and 4 Surf above Markland Dam in
Gallatin County, others scattered on the river at
Louisville including flock of 11 (9 Surf and 2 Black)
previously reported.

Greater Scaup  2 above Markland Dam

Franklin's Gull  near Markland Dam   1 Nov
Laughing Gull    below McAlpine Dam  1 Nov
Forster's Tern   scattered on river at Louisville

Adult Bald Eagle at Meldahl and Markland Dams

I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone who
has assisted in getting the word out about the nice
birds recently, especially Hap Chambers for her quick
posting on the internet while she's been stuck at
work.  We'll look at some down there soon Hap.
