[birdky] BKY: Update on Ohio River from 31 October

As of 4:30 p.m. EST yesterday, October 31st, no one had seen the Long-billed
Murrelet. It was searched for everywhere from below the Falls of the Ohio
upstream to about Six-mile Island.
Also, unfortunately, Neil Cornell and I watched the Hudsonian Godwit take
off from the Falls of the Ohio with two Greater Yellowlegs at 3:35 p.m. EST
yesterday. One of the Greater Yellowlegs had been calling constantly for
about 15 minutes and the godwit had bathed . . . sure signs that a nervous
departure was imminent. All three birds departed to the east, upriver; we
hung around for another 45 minutes but none seemed to return.
Other nice birds on the Ohio River at Louisville yesterday included a single
plus a flock of nine Surf Scoters, and two Black Scoters; all were in
female/imm. plumage. Also continuing were small flocks of Ruddy Ducks and
Horned Grebes, Bonaparte's Gulls, and a few Common Loons and Forster's
Terns.
