I got out of work on friday in the office park behind the zoo to
notice the sound of a very pissed off squirrel. I looked over to the
nearest tree to see the flap of a large wing. A juvenile redtailed
hawk was going after the squirrel. I sat nearby and watched it's
uncusesfull attempts at catching the squirrel who was contentedly
chewing on a nut half of the time. Some blue jays came by and mobbed
the hawk for awhile till they realised he was after the squirrel.
Finally, the squirrel came down the tree and made a b-line strait for
me with hawk in persuit! I missed getting hit by only a couple of
feet. I watched the hawk follow the squirrel to a mature tree where
the squirel got away from him. Interesting to watch and I got some
neat photos of the very frustrated looking hawk.
