It was a great weekend for hiking and fall color watching at the Red River
Gorge. It will probably be about another week or so until peak colors but
Saturday was especially beautiful, with a brilliant sun and not a cloud in the
sky. However, we (Veronica and I) happened upon very few birds. On Saturday
October 14 we did find one Red-breasted Nuthatch in the same location along
the
Rock Bridge Loop (Wolfe Co.) where they are most often found during the
breeding season. Also observed, 1 Blue-headed Vireo, 6 Ruby-crowned Kinglets,
2
Golden-crowned Kinglets and 4 Pine Warblers (totals from Saturday and Sunday
combined).
