There are two Clay-colored Sparrows in fresh basic plumage along the shore of Deem's Lake near one of the main stream inlets. Upon entering the park (no fee) proceed past the boat ramp parking lot to the next parking area on the right (gravel). There is a covered picnic pavillion in the same location. Park in the lot and walk to the edge of the water where you will see lots of cattails and rushes along with some small willows. The two birds were hanging out in the willows along with many other sparrows.
If you can find your way back to the main inlet for the lake (about 2 miles by trail) you will find close to 200 Wood Ducks in the very heavily vegetated wetland area. I also flushed a Snipe and multiple Sparrow Species.
Good luck,
Major Waltman
