12 October 2005:

This morning, I birded casually in Elkton and nearby central Todd County
while waiting for my son to take the PSAT at Todd County Central High
School.  I had observed at single Eurasian-collared Dove between the
square and the school, so I decided to drive through some residential
neighborhoods "check their status".  They have been reported from here
for a few years.  In the area south of old US 68 and west of KY 181,  I
observed 10 individuals in about 10 minutes of driving.  I never
bothered to get out of the car.

I went to the Elkton Cemetery for a nice quite walk, hoping for a few
migrants.  The area was mostly "dead", but I did observe:

1 Eastern Phoebe
1 Nashville Warbler
1 Magnolia Warbler
2 White-throated Sparrows and
1 White-crowned Sparrows.

Also in Elkton, walking along the track around the TCCHS football field,
I observed a single Ruby-crowned Kinglet in the trees to the south.

I drove south on KY 181, then west on KY 204.  I stopped occasionally
and walked along wooded areas near the highway.  Other birds of note
observed included:

1 Northern Harrier
1 Barred Owl
1 Brown Thrasher
1 Yellow-rumped Warbler
2 Song Sparrows, and
2 Swamp Sparrows.

The Swamp, White-throated, and -White-crowned Sparrows were the seasons
first for me.  A total of 37 species included those listed above were
noted.
