There has been a bit of chatter on various listserves recently about tower
killed birds ... this in large part due to the dreary, early October weather
we've recently experienced. The past few fall seasons we (thankfully) have
not had much weather during the peak of fall songbird migration like the
past several days, but because of it I have also been checking a few towers
when I have been able to. Again, thankfully, there have only been minor
kills, but recent checks have yielded the following:

TV tower along US 41 in Henderson on Friday:

Golden-crowned Kinglet 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1
Tennessee Warbler 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Palm Warbler 1
Ovenbird 1
Swamp Sparrow 1


TV towers along Winchester Road, east of I-75 on Sunday:

WKYT had nothing, but WTVQ had 12 birds of 10 species:

Red-eyed Vireo 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Golden-crowned Kinglet 1
Gray Catbird 1
Brown Thrasher 1
Tennessee Warbler 1
Magnolia Warbler 1
Ovenbird 1
Common Yellowthroat 2
Yellow-breasted Chat 1 (a relatively late date)
