Hi All,
Not much to brag about, but perhaps this cool front will bring in more
tomorrow. A male ROSE-BREATSED GROBEAK just came into one of the
feeders. I saw him up in my BIG OLE PINE TREE and went outdoors to
replenish the sunflower seeds in the grosbeaks' favorite feeder. Lo and
behold, he came down to the feeder before I could get back indoors. I
have been seeing an occasional female, but this is the first adult male
this Fall.

The BARRED OWLS were raising a ruckus last night on both sides of the
mountains. I hope that they were not telling each other about my
Butterfly Koi. My favorite Koi, "Holly", went missing shortly after we
saw one of the BARRED OWLS on an electric line almost over one of the
ponds. Plus several SHEBUNKINS in another pond went missing! After that
we placed wire over the ponds until the plants started growing, like
shutting the barn door after the horses were already out. During the
summer months the ponds are covered with the water plants and the fish
cannot be seen.

Other birds seen the past two days: SWAINSON THRUSH, GREAT BLUE HERON,
BROWN THRASHER, EASTERN PHOEBE, etc.

Cheers, Joan Carr
