[birdky] Re: FW: suggestions for Costa Rica

I would strongly recommend hiring Richard Garrigues. He is a professional
guide who lives in a suburb of San Jose. He is a U.S. citizen but has lived
there for 22 years and thus speaks fluent Spanish, which is a big help. A
group of four of us hired him for 8 days in February, and to say he was "good"
would be the understatement of a lifetime. Not only does he know more about
Costa Rican bird distribution than probably anyone living, he's essentially a
walking encyclopedia of the entire natural AND geopolitical history of the
region. He planned our whole itinerary, and even made most of the reservations
for us. To top it off, he was very inexpensive to boot. I do not think it is
appropriate for me to post his rate (which does not include his expenses), but
it was cheaper than any U.S. based guide that I have seen.

In short, you won't find anyone better for that country, IMO.
