The KOS/Beckham fieldtrip to the Sloughs WMA in
Henderson County will be held Saturday, October 18 as
scheduled.  We will meet in the parking area at the
2nd observation platform near the entrance to Hardy
Slough on the Sauerheber Unit at 0800 cst.  

To reach Hardy Slough, take Pennyrile Pkwy south from
Audubon Pkwy in Henderson to hwy 425.  Stay on 425
straight through the intersection with 136.  Highway
425 turns into 136 here.  Take 136 to Geneva, and turn
right on 268.  Hardy Slough is approximately 3-4 miles
and you will see the observation platforms on the
left.  

Be sure to wear clothing appropriate for marshing, and
remember to bring your lunch.  Clothing with a tight
weave tends to repel weeds seeds better than fuzzy
material.  A change of pants, socks, and shoes is
always nice for the ride home.  Water in the fields
will average only ankle deep or less, but we may
occasionally cross ditches which are nearly knee-deep.
 You may also choose to stay dry by walking the levees
but may miss a few birds.  Some who attend wear rubber
boots and others old sneakers.   I find leather boots
to be more comfortable, and just let them dry and oil
them after the trip.
