My day started with great intentions of birding the counties along the 
Mississippi River until a flat tire altered things. At Swan Lake hundreds of DC 
Cormorants were swimming quietly along the shoreline.  Egrets, Red-headed 
woodpeckers, Brown Thrashers and Indigo Buntings were also abundant.
The Laketon sand bars are exposed and there is habitat but very few birds.  I 
walked a long way to add Caspian Tern, Western, Least Sandpiper and Fish Crow 
to the day list.
Westvaco Wildlife Management area in Carlisle County has shorebird habitat 
and birds.  Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, Wilson's snipe 
and more but this is where the story changes from birding to begging.  A note 
to 
all you birders who travel to the middle of nowhere.  Make sure your lug nuts 
aren't so tight you cannot remove them.  This is what happened to me today.  
No cell phone coverage and no help in sight.  I eventually decided to drive on 
the flat tire until I reached the black top and flagged down a strong helper. 
 An expensive lesson since the tire is shredded now.
