The Falls of the Ohio had a decent variety of shorebirds this morning, although
numbers remain low. Gary & Becky Dorman were there and we had the following
shorebirds:
Killdeer 50+
Semi Plover 1
Piping Plover 1
Spotted Sandpiper 8+
Pectoral Sandpiper 1
Least Sandpiper 10-12+
Semi Sandpiper 1
Semi/Western Sandpiper (prob a short-billed western) 1
Baird's Sandpiper 2
Buff-breasted Sandpiper 6
The Piping Plover is probably the same bird that has been there for about two
weeks now; feeding in same spot off the state park overlook way over near the
wall; most of the birds eventually ended up on the lower fossil beds below Wave
Rock. The lower pool is VERY low, creating a lot of habitat down that way and
also below the hydro dam farther downstream. Was surprised there were no terns
at all.
