[birdky] Hawks over the Arboretum

Wow! I took a group on a tour today of the Arboretum in Fayette County and
was treated to 100+ migrating hawks over the course of the morning. Having
no binoculars and not being terribly good at hawk ID (other than red tails
and Cooper's), I couldn't say what they were for sure. However, judging by
their size (smaller than the marauding crows that were following them) and
their wide wings and fan-shaped tails, I'm guessing they were broad-winged
hawks. What do you think, hawk experts, good guess?

I drove down to Pine Mountain on my day off Monday, in hopes of seeing
hawks. The day began cloudy and overcast and I saw nothing while there save
one spectacular close-encounter with a barred owl. It swooped over the road
in front of my car on the way up to Chained Rock, and I pulled over to have
a look. It perched on a branch quite close to the road and we stared at
each other for about 5 minutes before I finally drove off.

As I approached I-75 on my return home along 25E, I noticed a large group of
dark, circling specks. There were my hawks, about 40 of them, impossibly
high but nevertheless identifiable as hawks. (Don't ask what kind!)
