An early morning trip to Ballard resulted in a pleasant trip. Mitchell Lake is
as low as I have ever seen it. Extensive mudflats are now visible from several
locations. One can almost walk out on the bar from the levee. Most of the
remaining 50 to 75 waders are roosting elsewhere but were seen flying up the
bottoms shortly after daybreak. Several plowed fields on the area are holding
killdeer but no other plovers could be found. Highlights from Mitchell Lake
include:
Blue-w teal 150+
Great egret 50 +
Snowy egret 6
Little blue heron 3
Bald eagle 3
Killdeer 150 + (on the area)
Lesser yellowlegs 20 +
Spotted sandpiper 1
Sanderling 2
Semipalmated sandpiper 2
Least sandpiper 12 +
Pectoral sandpiper 15 +
Buff-breasted sandpiper 1
Wilson's snipe 9
Least tern 28 +
