[birdky] BKY: Distribution of Funds from the BBC 2005 Birdathon

On August 1 the Beckham Bird Club Board of Directors distributed $9950 among
the recipients of this year's birdathon. We exceeded last year's total by
over $2500. We wish to thank all our members and friends that contributed to
our
2005 Birdathon and helped to make this year our most successful yet. Listed
below are organizations and the amount that they will receive this year.
Kentucky Nature Preserves Commission - $2000 -Acquire 13-acre tract adjacent
to John James Audubon State Park to prevent development. Eleven acres would
become part of the State Nature Preserves Commission and 2 acres would be
developed for visitor improvements.
Kentucky Natural Lands Trust - $2000 -Funds will go to the Pine Mountain
Legacy Project to pay costs of land acquisition. The KNLT is trying to connect
protected forests to form a migratory corridor from Virginia to Tennessee.
Kentucky Resources Council -$1000 - Funds will be used to support the KRC's
conservation efforts including advocacy, lobbying, public education on
environmental issues.
Raptor Rehabilitation of Kentucky -$900- Funds will sponsor raptor education
programs in Kentucky public schools.
Kentucky Conservation Committee -$750 -Funds will support lobbying of
Kentucky Legislature on environmental issues. The KCC is a coalition of
environmental groups that works to educate the public and facilitate contact
between
citizens and lawmakers on important environmental legislation.
Louisville Nature Center - $500 -Funds will be used to pay for field trips to
the Nature Center for students from underserved and underfunded schools in
Louisville. Students will learn about bird identification and the importance
of
habitat.
Wingspan of Kentucky -$800 - Funds to present Birds of Prey programs in
underprivileged Jefferson County Public Schools.
Lost River Cave and Valley - $1000 Purchase binoculars for use in educational
programs and place educational signage along trails.
Caldwell County Elementary Environmental Studies Group - -$1000 -Purchase
plants, shrubs and trees to provide food and nest cover for birds. Purchase
Purple Martin houses, birdbath with heater and bird feeders for habitat.
