I meant to get this request out yesterday but forgot . . . 

Some of you may recall that during the early waterfowl season last year,
some folks were observed using the shore of the heronry island near the Old
Kuttawa Rec Area in Lyon County as a hunting spot. The early goose season
snuck up on me and only late yesterday afternoon did I remind the US Army
Corps office that the island still has nesting Cattle Egrets on it (young
were heard calling from the island on Thursday)and that they should not
allow hunting from the island during the early season.  

I believe that when they can get by there, the rangers will check the site
for activity, but I wanted to ask anyone going by the area this weekend and
next week to look and listen for activity. If you see any, you can try
calling the Corps office at 270/362-4236 and leave a message if no one
answers. Also, you might run into a ranger somewhere who you could notify. I
deeply regret not remembering about this nuisance in time to put out some
signs last week to direct hunters away from this one island, but we will do
our best to get some out early next week.
