LSU Museum of Natural Science

The LSU Museum of Natural Science seeks a dynamic individual to be
Coordinator of a new project designed to heighten interaction between
ornithologists, birdwatchers, and other parties interested in thebirds of
Louisiana.  Funding for the position has been secured for three years, with
a possibility of the position becomingpermanent.

Required Qualifications:  At least a bachelor's degree,but M.S. or Ph.D.
preferred; strong background in bird natural historyand field skills; three
or more years of experience interacting withbird-watchers.  We seek an
energetic, enthusiastic, and personable individual eager to work with
amateur and professionalornithologists in Louisiana.  The position will
entailcoordinating efforts to survey and assess bird populations
inLouisiana, presenting promotional programs to organizations withinterests
in the birds of Louisiana,  and cultivating activeworking relationships
between such groups and the Museum. Responsibilities:    General:
provideleadership towards achieving the primary goal of the project,
namelyto develop a clearinghouse for information on the status,distribution,
and on-going studies of Louisiana birdpopulations;  Immediate goals: to help
complete aLouisiana bird-finding guide that is currently nearly finished;
toco-author and complete a major book on the status and distribution ofbirds
of Louisiana that is currently partially finished; and tospearhead effort to
establish on-line data-bases on Louisiana birddistribution.  Salary will be
$30,000/year [plus benefits]. Application deadline is December 1, 2003, or
