[birdky] RPT: Warblery weekend

I was able to get out and enjoy some fall passerines this weekend . . . had
23 spp of warblers on Sat/Sun as follows:
Surrey Hills Farm, e Jefferson Co. on Sat: Blue-winged (1); Golden-winged
(2); Tennessee; Northern Parula (1); Chestnut-sided; Magnolia;
Black-throated Green; Palm (1); Bay-breasted (1); Black-and-white; American
Redstart; Ovenbird; Kentucky (2 heard chipping); Mourning (nice immy bathing
in dew covered leaves); Common Yellowthroat; Wilson's.
Sinclair WMA, Muhl Co. on Sun: Golden-winged (1); Tennessee; Northern
Parula, Yellow (2); Prairie (4); Black-and-white; American Redstart;
Ovenbird; Common Yellowthroat; Yellow-breasted Chat (several heard including
a bit of song).
Land Between the Lakes, Lyon Co. on Sun: Blue-winged (1), Golden-winged (1);
Tennessee (only a few); No Parula; Chestnut-sided; Magnolia; Black-throated
Green; Yellow-throated; Pine (1); Black-and-white; American Restart;
Ovenbird; Hooded (2 juveniles in an area where they nest); Wilson's (1);
Canada (1).
Other groups were not especially well represented. I've heard MANY migrating
thrushes at night but seen/heard only a very few during the day . . . where
do they go??? Waterbird highlights were lacking with waters having risen
above levels suitable for shorebirds. The Paradise ash basin had only the
continuing peeps.
My greatest disappointment over the weekend was arriving at the Kuttawa
Recreation Area on Lake Barkley only to find the heron/egret nesting colony
island nearly devoid of birds, but populated by three boats, at least 4
barrel/bare-chested male humans, one golden labrador and about 200 Canada
Goose decoys. Those of you who know me can imagine my state of mind . . .
is there NO place sacred??? Immediate calls have been made to the US Army
Corps of Engineers. We have bantered back and forth over the years whether
or not to post this island, but this is a clear signal to me. It also
likely explains the sudden disappearance of birds from the island in the
fall of 2001 (I don't think the early Canada Goose season had been
instigated at that time, but perhaps someone was there looking for teal).
