Hello I have done a little birding in areas that don't get many reports over
the last couple of days. Yesterday, I walked from UPS to Nevada behind the
airport property had very few birds as it was windy. One of the highlights
was a distant(only because I had no binocs) Blue grosbeak. I heard it making
a loud pink call but needed better silhouette and behavior observation to
identify it, and got just enough. I never got any color but size ans shape
I think gave me confidence that it was. I also saw a cicada impaled head
first on the fence surrounding the property, and was wondering if anyone new
what kind of animal besides a shrike would do that. other highlights:
Carolina Wren
Eastern Kingbird
Co. Yellowthroat
Lepidoptera:1 Checkered White
Iroquois Park Saturday August 18 9:30-11:00
famliy of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
1 imm. American Redstart- earliest I have ever seen one. migrating patterns
have been shifting dramatically on the timetable- already people are
reporting post-breeding dispersal winter finches
Good Birding,
Michael Autin
