[birdky] Martin Roost

Rhonda and I visited the Lexington Martin roost last night after other local
birders had indicated it had grown; which also showed up on the radar. I would
agree with you Jim, 10,000 birds anyway. They are roosting in the northern end
of a 10 acre pine tree lot (xmas tree venture turned sour?), and a corn field
adjacent to the south end of the pines.
The pine trees are at the end of Spelding Drive and the corn field is at the
end of Marcus in the Stuart Hall subdivision. The majority of the birds are in
the pines but it was easier to view them diving into the corn. When I had been
there earlier I had assumed they were roosting on the power lines, but that
just proved to be a momentary rest before they drop into the corn. This is a
spectacle worth taking in.
I was a little surprised at the quietness of the flock; they were rather
raucous when they were visiting our yard. And Rhonda was surprised that some
brazen mosquitoes flew in under radar to harass us.
