6AM to 10AM 73º clear.

With the drought and heat, shorebirds are few and far between.

268 slough is completely dry.

1574 sough is down to about 10 ft by 40ft. The receding water has  
revealed three deep muskrat channels that converge on an old brush  
heap beside the slough. These channels were completely dry.
Main part of Honey Cypress Slough: full of stinking, fly-covered,  
dead carp, 3 Spotted Sandpipers, Great Blues and Great Egrets.
Horseshoe Rd. slough at NW end, two weeks ago, was down to 10 ft by  
100 ft with dead carp. I did not visit today.
Pond Creek Marsh: Baited and nets set up to trap ducks. None present.  
Water is really down and green with lots of big dead carp.
Shorebird Unit: Killdeer, 7 Least Sandpipers, 1 Solitary Sandpiper.  
This is the best I have seen at SBU since spring. But there is not  
much water.
On the way to Grassy Pond/ Powell's Lake Unit I saw a flock of  
Turkeys: 3 Hens and 15 Juvs.
At GP/PL I watched a Muskrat catch and eat a small catfish starting  
from the tail fin.

Nothing else of note.
