[birdky] ducks in soybeans

The farm adjoining mine used to have a two acre, five foot deep pond. Decades
of continuous row cropping silted it in and caused it to go dry by 1988. The
owner bulldozed the old willow grove and has row cropped the pond bottom ever
since. Now water almost never stands in this bottom long enough to drown out a
crop. A four inch rain on August 11 seems to have temporarily resealed this
bottom. Yesterday 4 Blue-winged Teals were swimming among the dead soy bean
stalks. (I could see them from my place without wading through waist high
soybeans).
