KY Birders,
I would like to thank Brainard and everyone else who got the word out and kept
people posted about this fantastic bird. I was able to leave west TN
mid-morning yesterday, make the trip to Louisville, then bake in the Sun for 4
hours before we finally found the bird again at last light! :") It was a very
nice way to spend the evening, watching this beauty with Brainard and Roseanna,
while it bathed and preened, and generally put on a great show. This bird was
especially nice for me, as it was the last of the Stints on my life list
(though 1st of the Stints in ABA).
Light wasn't good for photography, but that had already been taken care of
anyway. The trip up was productive in the form of my 1st Olive-sided Flycatcher
this fall (and 1st for KY I guess as well). The 4.5 hour ride home wasn't near
as long as it was looking just before we found the bird.
I have posted some shots of the bird in fading light, none of which are good,
but do have captions for several of the field marks that are helpful even if
the bird isn't right on top of you. Other than for this, all of the shots that
have been posted previously are better than mine. Following my poor shots are
one of David Roemer's always nice shots, so I can at least do the bird justice
in my gallery.
My shots are in the following gallery: http://www.pbase.com/mctodd/little_stint
, clicking on any image will enlarge it, and using the next or previous tab
will also let you navigate among photos. If anyone is interested for
comparison, I also have galleries of the other Stints in my Shorebird gallery.
Warning, none of these shots are remotely magazine quality. The Red-necked
Stint gallery does give a good feel for the differences in these birds though,
especially structurally, with Red-necked looking short-legged and especially
attenuated with long wings. These galleries are at:

Hope many more can enjoy this great bird!!
