[birdky] Piping plover still at the Falls of the Ohio in Louisville

Saw Tom and Colleen Becker's piping plover running around on the rocks
across from the Interpretive Center. I was there 7:30-8:15 this morning,
and the plover was still there when I left, actively feeding with a group of
least sandpipers. The light was great, and the scope gave great views of
its yellow legs, stubby black bill, pale face and back, and prominent black
eye. Bigger than the least sandpipers; much smaller than the killdeer.
Other birds of interest: peregrine falcon early, sitting on the retaining
wall and flying low over the rocks (I didn't spot the shorebirds until the
falcon disappeared), pectoral and spotted sandpipers.
Did not see any whimbrels, avocets, semipalmated plovers or sandpipers, or
terns of any variety. Wave rock had only killdeer, great blue herons, and
d-c cormorants.
