Finally the Ohio River is down low enough to provide some habitat for
migrating shorebirds. There were 7 species of shorebirds in fair numbers at
Wave
Rock. If you don't know Wave Rock, it's the exposed rock seen immediately
across the river from the lower eddy which is west of the Interpretive Center.
Birds of interest:
Solitary Sandpiper -4
Spotted Sandpiper -2
Pectoral Sandpiper - 8
Short-billed Dowitchers - 5
Semi-palmated Sandpipers - 8
Possible Western Sandpiper - 1
Killdeer - 30+
Chimney Swifts - 100+
Purple Martins - 15
Cedar Waxwings - 25
At the Falls, we saw the usual suspects:
Black-crowned Night Heron
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
