Subject: Important Bird Area nomination form
Dear Dr. Ritchison:
I am a volunteer working under the auspices of the Kentucky Audubon
Council as a facilitator for the Technical Committee that is reviewing
nominations of sites in Kentucky for classification as Important Bird Areas,
IBA's. IBA's are places that are of great importance to the survival of
birds. The IBA program began in Europe, I believe more than 20 years ago.
In the United States the IBA program is being coordinated by The National
Audubon Society. To date about 40 of the 50 states have an IBA program in
place.
I am attaching a copy Kentucky's IBA nomination form to this message so
that you can see the type of information we are seeking about sites all
across Kentucky. If you go past the cover page to Page 1, you will see the
different criteria that are being used to judge whether or not a site is an
IBA. Would you be willing to help me with knowing who is the best person to
contact regarding the nomination of potential IBA's in the following
counties?:
Anderson
Mercer
Boyle
Casey
Marion
Lincoln
Rockcastle
Garrard
Lincoln
Madison
Jackson
I greatly appreciate any help you can give me as I try to obtain
nominations for IBA sites in your part of the state. If there is another
area, in another county, or any site that you believe should be nominated
other than in the counties I have asked about, I hope you will feel free to
let me know and will help me to start the process for getting a nomination
form completed.
Yours truly,
Brenda Bailey Little
