The Swallow-tailed Kite at the Sinclair Unit appeared today at 11:15 a.m., 
Central Time, popping up over the ridge which follows Road S-5 on the opposite 
side of the road from the water.  The bird worked that ridge for about 25 
minutes, rising from time to time above the trees and, at one point, making a 
couple of passes across the road directly over our heads, maybe 40 feet up, 
before 
gliding beside us for a spectacular few seconds, right above our eye level.  
It was a real treat, since this was our third hot day, on two different 
weekends, looking for the bird.  
We know that there were three other lucky birders who saw the kite today; we 
hope that anybody else who was out there was also rewarded for braving the 
blazing heat.  And, as usual, eco-tourism paid off for the local folks, too, as 
we Garrard Countians now have a frequent-stayer account at a Central City 
motel!
