Danny Watson with the Ky Dept of Fish and Wildlife Resources received a
phone call today from Mrs. Eleanor Lobb, who described a rufous hummingbird
that was at her feeders yesterday. She apparently described it very
accurately (red throat patch like ruby-throated, body reddish brown, dark
wings compared to body color).  I talked to her a few minutes ago and she
has not seen it today, but she was at work most of the day.  

If anyone wishes to check on the status of the bird or go look for it, she
said to call her at 270/749-2307.  The Lobb's live at 2333 Ray Houchins
Road, between Smith's Grove and Park City (closer to the latter, she said)
in southern Edmonson County (ca 10 miles from Mammoth Cave).  A quick look
at the Gazetteer did not yield a Ray Houchins Road in the area, but the
Edmonson Co. map turned up at least THREE in the area variously labelled
"Houchins" something or other.

Many early male Rufous Hummers pass right through, but it's possible this
guy will hang around.
