Scott Record, Hap Chambers and myself birded a variety of places in west KY
over the weekend.  Nothing as exciting as has been reported in adjacent
states lately (wood storks and roseate spoonbills among others :o)

I did compile a two-day total of 15 spp of shorebirds, but numbers remain
somewhat low in part due to the lack of good habitat in some areas (most
notably Ballard WMA and the Miss River sandbars in Carlisle and Hickman
counties).  The most noteworthy of the lot were NINETEEN Black-necked Stilts
at the south end of Lake No. 9 (a family group of 6 plus 13 other adults).
Shorebird list also included Semi Plover, Killdeer, both yellowlegs,
Solitary, Spotty, Pectoral, Least, Baird's, Semi, Western, S-b Dowitcher,
Stilt Sp, and Sanderling.

Flying juvenile Least Terns were just about everywhere, a heartening
observation following last year's generally unsuccessful nesting season.
Also observed were Caspians, Blacks and Forster's in decent numbers.

Lake No. 9 was slim on shorebirds other than the stilts, but approximately
1000 waders including an estimated 600 Great Egrets, 300 Snowy Egrets, 100
Great Blues, and 35+ Little Blues.  118 Am White Pelicans came in off the
Miss River and fed for about 1/2 hour. Dabbling ducks are moving in, too,
with B-wg teal and No. Shovelers present. Nearby, an accommodating
Olive-sided Flycatcher perched in a treetop.
