I did a short birding trip to the Sloughs this morning.

6AM to 9AM, 70º rising to 80º, partly cloudy calm

I covered Hardy Slough, Shorebird Unit, 268 slough, new sandbar this  
year on Ohio River (Union Co.), Grassy Pond/Powell's Lake Unit, &  
Horseshoe Road slough.
Hardy Slough dikes have been mowed but the stubble is thick and hard  
to walk. A little water remains with dead fish. Most of Hardy Slough  
main area is covered with lotus.
Highlights:
Solitary Sandpiper 1
Least Sandpiper 2
Prothonatary Warbler
N. Parula Warbler
Com. Yellowthroat
Yellow-breasted Chat

pond across from the road from the Sloughs Headquarters had a white  
Little Blue Heron (FOS).
268 slough has lots of large dead carp and catfish floating.

no highlights

sandbar on the Ohio (Union Co.) is quickly being covered by weeds.

Highlights:

Bald Eagle passing over headed up river
Double Crested Cormorants 7 overhead heading toward Grassy Pond/ 
Powells Lake Unit area
Grassy Pond/Powell's Lake Unit: water is slowing dropping
Honey Cypress slough is almost dried up.

Highlights:

Great Egret
Wood Duck family

Horseshoe Road slough
Only water left is at the NW corner. Lots of floating big dead carp  
and catfish.

Solitary Sandpiper
