KOS Members and Subscribers of BIRDKY and Tnbirds:
The fall meeting of the Kentucky Ornithological Society will be held at Lake
Cumberland State Resort Park from 23 September - 25 September. 38 Lodge
rooms are reserved for KOS attendees at a rate of $87.95 per night. The
rate is for 1 or 2 persons with a $5.00 fee per person beginning with the
3rd occupant. The Lodge did not allow us a discount due to the popularity
of the Lodge at this time of year. However, please mention that you are
with KOS as the number of rooms we utilize may affect the cost of meeting
room facilities. There are also 3, 2-bedroom cottages reserved at a rate of
$154.95 per night. The cottages sleep up to 8 persons, however the rate is
for from 1 - 4 persons with a $5.00 additional fee per person beginning with
the 5th person. An excellent campground is in the park on a first come
first served basis. More information about the park is available at this
link: http://parks.ky.gov/resortparks/lc/index.htm. Note: The park is in
Central Time Zone.
The Friday evening program will begin at 7:00 CDT presented by Dona Coates
who will detail her recent birding adventure to Bolivia. Completing the
South American theme for Friday evening, Owensboro residents and KOS members
Wendell and Marilee Thompson will present a program on their recent birding
trip to Peru.
The Saturday evening program will also begin at 7:00 CDT will consist be
presented by Dr. Fred Aslop of East Tennessee State University. Dr. Aslop
is a contributing author to numerous books and an accomplished birder of
national repute. He will present a program that focuses on Wildlife and
Avian Photographs. There will also be a short business meeting to elect new
officers for 2006 and to consider minor by-law revisions.
Any person who wishes to have the floor for announcements or brief
information pieces should contact me ASAP. Anyone who wishes to put up a
display/table or otherwise distribute materials to attendees should do the
same.
As usual, field trips will be held on Saturday and Sunday mornings. These
are in the planning stages.
I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A SPECIAL INVITATION TO BIRDKY SUBSCRIBERS WHO ARE
NOT KOS MEMBERS AND TO MEMBERS WHO HAVE NEVER ATTENDED A MEETING. THE
ATMOSPHERE IS VERY LAID BACK, VISITORS AND "SLACKARDS" ARE WELCOMED WITH
OPEN ARMS. WE ARE ABOUT INCLUSION OF THOSE WITH AN INTEREST IN BIRDS AT ALL
LEVELS. IF YOU HAVE NEVER ATTENDED A MEETING BEFORE, PLEASE MAKE THIS YOUR
FIRST.
I look forward to see you there.
