Mary Walter and I tried to ignore the heat and find birds this weekend.
Nothing surprising to report.

--- July 23 ---

Sinclair Unit of Peabody WMA
* Bell's vireo
* grasshopper sparrow
* Henslow's sparrow
* blue grosbeak
* greater yellowlegs (3)

Kuttawa heronry overlook
* cattle egrets and a few snowy egrets on the island; did not spot any
little blue herons

Land Between the Lakes
* scissor-tailed flycatchers -- in the same area as previously reported, by
Grand Rivers Terminal #1 gate on Highway 453 just south of I-24. One
visited a nest on the wooden telephone pole with the double upper and lower
beams (near the entrance). The nest was between the lower double beams on
the side nearest the highway. Did not see any young or any other activity
associated with the nest in the brief time we were there.

Fulton Co. area
* least tern, Port of Hickman
* little blue herons -- various spots, intersection of 1282 & 94, for
example
* Miss. kite -- Longpoint unit of Reelfoot
* could not find good shorebird habitat either at Reelfoot or in the upper
bottoms, but probably just didn't know the best spots to check

--- July 24 ---

Sloughs WMA west of Henderson ("Semi-slough" area along 268)
* 6 least sandpipers; also 4-5 more in shorebird area west of Hardy Slough
* 1 semi. sandpiper
* swallows by the dozens on the telephone wires, including plenty of bank
swallows
