[birdky] RPT: Avocet and more at the Falls of the Ohio

The Falls is still "hopping" relatively speaking ... for an area that has
been a wasteland for shorebirds in recent times.
Still quite dreary and relatively calm today, but some peaks of sun may soon
occur!
All commoner species noted yesterday remained. I was there from about 11:00
to 12:30 today. List of more interesting species follows:
Red-breasted Merganser (female still present -- this bird may be summering
as some seem to have done in the past; I doubt it can fly from molt/wear in
flight feathers)
Osprey (1)
Semipalmated Plover (1)
Killdeer (a few)
American Avocet (1 long-billed probable male still mostly in alt plumage --
gorgeous!)
Greater Yellowlegs (6)
Lesser Yellowlegs (2+)
Willet (still at least 16, although the birds have spread out over the
entire area, working in small groups and singly in just about every little
nook and cranny like they own the place ... very odd for visiting
shorebirds)
Western Sandpiper (at least 3 ads in worn alt plumage with a flock of
Leasts)
Least Sandpiper (5+)
Short-billed Dowitchers (7 ... most in very bright alt plumage; calls heard)
Ring-billed Gull (1 adult)
Small white Sterna terns (5 ... at least two adult Commons and an adult
Forster's plus two first-year birds that may have been either species ...
they were sort of distant and I didn't get the best of looks).
