[birdky] RPT: State of food crops

From what I can tell from running around the central and western parts of
the state recently, birds are in for a much better time of it in winter
2005-2006 as far as food crops go.

White pines (native and introduced) seem to be weighted down with cones like
I've never seen them before and other conifers, including white cedars, seem
to be bearing well.

Red cedars seem to have a good crop of berries.

I have noted nice crops of hackberries in some areas, too.

I have noted a good crop of holly berries on the trees in our yard as
opposed to last year when there were virtually none.

Walnuts aren't heavy with fruit, but there appears to be an ample supply.

The one thing which may be lacking again are acorns ... I have not noted an
abundance being shed as early fruits anywhere.

Today I noticed a poison ivy vine full of berries.

Maybe we'll have a finchy winter :o)
