July 8, 2004: I visited the South Shore Wildlife Management Area today
in Greenup County. An adult bald eagle was present. There are fish in
the larger of the 2 wetlands plus lots of young wood ducks to serve as
food. The smaller, shallower wetland has receded quite a bit since May
providing plenty of shorebird habitat. Killdeer were abundant. I
noticed at least one peep but did not try to positively identify it
without a spotting scope. It looked like a least sandpiper. Two great
egrets were hanging out in the tree row between the 2 wetlands.
